The AICTE Swanath Scholarship Scheme is a welfare scholarship run by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for students who have lost a parent, or whose parent is critically ill or disabled, so that they can continue their technical education at Degree or Diploma level. Each selected student gets Rs 50,000 a year for every year of study.
For the 2026-27 session the scheme is open on the National Scholarship Portal. The portal lists the student application as open till 31 October 2026, with institute verification closing on 15 November 2026. A maximum of 2,000 scholarships – 1,000 for Degree and 1,000 for Diploma students – are given every year.

What is the AICTE Swanath Scholarship?
Swanath is implemented by AICTE to give encouragement and support to orphans, wards of parents who died due to Covid-19, wards of Armed Forces and Central Paramilitary Forces martyred in action (Shaheed), and students whose parent is suffering from a critical life-threatening disease or died or became severely disabled in an accident. The scheme is meant to give every such child an opportunity to study further through education in AICTE-approved institutions and courses.
How much does the AICTE Swanath Scholarship pay?
- Rs 50,000 per annum for every year of study.
- Maximum duration is 4 years for a Degree student admitted in the first year, and 3 years for a Diploma student.
- It is paid as a lump sum towards payment of college fee, purchase of a computer, stationery, books, equipment and software.
- No additional grant is payable in lieu of hostel charges or medical charges.
If a student is currently in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year at degree level, the duration of the scholarship is reduced to 3, 2 or 1 year respectively. Similarly, a diploma student in the 2nd or 3rd year gets the scholarship for 2 or 1 year.
Eligibility for the AICTE Swanath Scholarship
As per the official AICTE guidelines, the candidate must satisfy all of the following conditions:
- The candidate must be from any one of these categories: an orphan; or either or both parents died due to Covid-19; or a ward of Armed Forces and Central Paramilitary Forces martyred in action (Shaheed); or a parent suffering from a critical life-threatening disease (like cancer) or who died or is severely disabled (above 80%) in an accident.
- Family income from all sources must not be more than Rs 8 lakh per annum during the financial year of application, with a valid income certificate issued by the State or UT Government.
- The candidate must be currently studying in an AICTE-approved institution at Degree or Diploma level in regular mode, in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year.
- The candidate must NOT be a recipient of any Central Government, State Government or AICTE sponsored scholarship.
Selection is carried out on the merit of the qualifying examination – the percentage of marks obtained in the 10+2 or equivalent examination for Degree level. If two candidates have the same marks, AICTE’s tie-breaking rules apply.
How to apply for the AICTE Swanath Scholarship
- Complete One Time Registration (OTR) on the National Scholarship Portal if you have not done it already.
- Log in at scholarships.gov.in and select the AICTE Swanath Scholarship Scheme (Technical Degree or Technical Diploma, as applicable).
- Fill in your personal, academic, bank and category details, and upload the proof of your category (orphan / Covid-bereaved / martyrs’ ward / critical illness or disability) and the income certificate.
- Submit the online application before 31 October 2026.
- Your institution verifies the application on the portal; institute verification closes on 15 November 2026 and DNO/SNO/MNO verification closes on 30 November 2026.
