The Financial Assistance for Education to the Wards of Beedi/Cine/IOMC/LSDM Workers is a central welfare scholarship of the Ministry of Labour and Employment. It pays for the education of the children of Beedi, Cine, iron ore, manganese ore and chrome ore mine (IOMC), limestone and dolomite mine (LSDM) and mica workers, from Class 1 right up to professional degree courses.
The assistance ranges from Rs 1,000 to Rs 25,000 per student per year, depending on the class or course. The money is transferred straight into the student’s bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), and applications are accepted only online on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
It is a welfare-based scholarship, so a student who already gets a merit-based scholarship from another central or state agency can still apply for this one. For the 2026-27 session the portal opened on 1 June 2026 and the last date for the student application is 31 October 2026.

| Class 1 to Class 4 | Rs 1,000 per year (for dress, books and similar items) |
| Class 5 to Class 8 | Rs 1,500 per year |

A professional course means a course where an entrance examination is required for admission and which leads to a recognised licence or degree, such as engineering through JEE, medical through NEET, management through CAT or law through CLAT. The final decision on whether a course counts as professional is taken by the Director General of Labour Welfare.
Eligibility criteria
- Either parent must be a Beedi, Cine, IOMC, LSDM or mica worker with at least six months of service. Contract (thekedari) and home-based (ghar-khata) workers are also eligible.
- Family income must not be more than Rs 21,000 per month, or Rs 2,52,000 per year.
- The student must have passed the previous qualifying examination in the first attempt. Students who have been promoted to the next class are also eligible.
- Admission must be in regular mode in a recognised government or government-aided institution in India.
- Students studying through correspondence or distance education are not eligible.
- The scheme is welfare-based, so one merit-based scholarship plus any number of welfare-based scholarships can be held together – this scholarship can be taken along with another welfare scheme.
- A valid Aadhaar number (or Aadhaar Enrolment ID), an Aadhaar-linked active mobile number and an NPCI-seeded bank account are compulsory for the DBT payment.
Who is not eligible for this scholarship
- Students who, after passing one stage of education, are studying the same stage in a different subject – for example B.Com after B.A., B.Sc after B.Com, or a second master’s in another subject.
- Students who move into a different professional stream after finishing one field – for example LL.B after B.Tech, or MBA after B.Tech.
- Students who repeat the same class – the scholarship is given for one year only in each class, so a repeated year is not funded.
- Students who change the course subject or the institution without the prior approval of the Welfare Commissioner – this can lead to cancellation.
