The TU Delft Excellence Scholarship 2027 is the route most Indian students use to fund a master’s degree at Delft University of Technology, the highest ranked engineering university in the Netherlands. TU Delft says it offers 16 full scholarships for its regular MSc programmes from the Justus & Louise van Effen Excellence foundation, plus 2 partial scholarships from the MSc Electrical Engineering programme, and the application deadline for both is 1 December 2026 (23:59 CET).

There is no separate university application for the scholarship. You first complete your TU Delft MSc application, then upload the scholarship application form and one reference letter before the same 1 December 2026 deadline. The university states clearly that missing that deadline means your scholarship application will not be reviewed at all.

What the TU Delft Excellence Scholarship covers

The Justus & Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarship is a full award, not a tuition discount. TU Delft lists the coverage as:

Tuition fees: full tuition fees for the first year of the MSc programme, calculated at the statutory fee or the institutional rate according to the nationality you registered with.
Living expenses: a monthly contribution on top of the tuition cover.
Second year: the allowances continue into the second year only if you complete at least 48 ECTS out of 60 in the first academic year.
Number of awards: 16 full scholarships across the university, awarded at 2 per faculty, so the competition differs by faculty.
Duration: awarded strictly for 24 months – TU Delft does not extend the scholarship beyond the two-year MSc period.

Two important conditions: a scholarship holder cannot hold any other partial or full scholarship funding along with it, and TU Delft does not recommend part-time work during the scholarship because it may affect your study progress. Award decisions are sent by email by the end of March 2027, and receiving the scholarship is conditional on you fulfilling every admission requirement.

TU Delft Excellence Scholarship eligibility for Indian students

You are an international applicant (Indian students are eligible) with an excellent academic record in a bachelor’s programme relevant to the master’s programme you are applying for.
You must have a complete MSc application submitted at TU Delft before the scholarship deadline – the scholarship is judged along with the admission application.
You must be (conditionally) admitted to one of the 2-year regular TU Delft MSc programmes. International Joint Education Programmes are excluded.
As an indication of the level of competition, TU Delft says the selected student is usually among the top 10% of graduates in their previous programme. Proof of class rank is not required.
Your English language test result must be uploaded with the MSc application before the scholarship deadline – TU Delft states this is mandatory for anyone who wants to be considered for a scholarship.

Watch your email – TU Delft says scholarship decisions are sent by the end of March 2027.

Because TU Delft states that it receives far more scholarship applications than it can fund, apply early rather than on the last day. A late or incomplete English test is the most common reason a strong application is not reviewed.

Along with the van Effen awards, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science funds the Microelectronics Scholarship through its Microelectronics research department. Up to two students receive a partial scholarship towards the cost of their MSc studies.

Open to promising international students conditionally admitted to the 2-year regular MSc Electrical Engineering programme, Microelectronics track.
Requires a cumulative GPA of 80% or higher of the scale maximum in the bachelor’s degree, from an internationally renowned university outside the Netherlands.
Same deadline: 1 December 2026 (23:59 CET).
The award partially covers tuition fees; extension to the second year depends on maintaining an average grade of 8.0 (80%) in the first year.
