UBC Okanagan Bachelor of Commerce International Launch Award is a CAD 6,000 award that every new international student entering the Bachelor of Commerce degree at UBC’s Okanagan campus for the September 2027 intake receives. There is no separate scholarship form and no competition round – the award is applied to your tuition account automatically once you accept UBC’s offer of admission.

For Indian students this is one of the simplest Canada scholarships to plan around: you apply for admission to the UBC Okanagan Bachelor of Commerce programme, and the award follows the admission offer. The admission application for the September 2027 session is open now, and the last date for international applicants is 15 January 2027.

What the BCom International Launch Award is worth
UBC describes the award as a CAD 6,000 credit against international tuition at the Okanagan campus. The money is not paid to you in cash – it is applied as a credit on your student account, in two equal instalments of CAD 3,000 across the two winter terms.
- CAD 3,000 in Winter Term 1 and CAD 3,000 in Winter Term 2, applied against your tuition fees.
- Renewable for an additional three years, or until you finish the degree, whichever comes first. Over a four-year Bachelor of Commerce degree that is up to CAD 24,000 in tuition credit.
- The award is open to all nationalities, so Indian students are eligible on the same terms as any other international applicant. There is no country quota and no separate India round.
- It is an entrance award, so it is available only to students who are new to UBC and starting the degree, not to students already enrolled.
Who receives it automatically
UBC’s own wording is unusually broad: all new international undergraduate students entering the Bachelor of Commerce degree programme for the September 2027 intake at the Okanagan campus receive this award. In practice that means the award is tied to three things:
- You must be an international student – a study-permit student, not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- You must be admitted to the Bachelor of Commerce degree at UBC Okanagan. The award belongs to that programme on that campus, not to UBC Vancouver and not to other Okanagan degrees.
- You must accept UBC’s offer and enrol. The credit appears on your account after acceptance and is visible once classes start in September.
Because the award is automatic, a strong application is the whole strategy. UBC assesses international undergraduates on academic performance and on the personal profile you submit with the application, and the Bachelor of Commerce intake is competitive, so treat the January admission deadline as the real deadline for this scholarship.
How to apply for the award and the admission
There is no scholarship form. The sequence that works is:
- Create a UBC applicant account and choose the UBC Okanagan Bachelor of Commerce programme for the September 2027 Winter Session. Applications opened in early October 2026.
- Upload your Class 12 transcripts and, if English is not your first language, your English language test score. UBC publishes the English Language Admission Standard separately from the award rules.
- Submit the application and pay the fee well before 15 January 2027. Indian school results often arrive late, so apply with predicted or mid-year marks and send final documents when they are issued.
- Accept the offer of admission. The CAD 6,000 credit is then applied to your student account automatically – you do not chase it separately.
Important dates for the September 2027 intake
- Early October 2026 – UBC’s online application opened for the Winter Session (September 2027 to April 2028).
- 15 November 2026 (11:59 p.m. PST) – deadline for international applicants to apply to UBC and submit an award application if they want to be considered for the need-based UBC International Scholars Program awards. This date does not apply to the BCom International Launch Award, which needs no form, but it is the deadline to remember if you are also chasing a full-funding award.
- 15 January 2027 (11:59 p.m. PST) – deadline to apply for the Winter Session (September 2027 to April 2028). This is the operative deadline for the BCom award.
- 31 January 2027 – International Scholars Program applicants must meet UBC’s English Language Admission Standard by this date.
All dates are as published on UBC’s own dates and deadlines page and are in Pacific Standard Time, which is 13 hours 30 minutes behind India Standard Time. A 11:59 p.m. PST deadline on 15 January falls in the afternoon of 16 January in India, so do not leave it to the last day.
How it compares with the other UBC Okanagan awards
UBC Okanagan runs three automatic awards for new international undergraduates, and they are often confused with each other. They are separate awards with different conditions:
| UBC Okanagan Global Elevation Award | CAD 8,000 a year, paid CAD 4,000 per winter term and renewable for up to four years, for every new international undergraduate who enrols at UBC Okanagan |
| UBC Okanagan International Welcome Award | CAD 5,000 credit towards first-year tuition for first-year international students enrolled full time (24 credits in the Winter Session) who chose a UBC Okanagan degree as their first choice |
| UBC Okanagan BCom International Launch Award | CAD 6,000 a year towards tuition for new international students in the Bachelor of Commerce, renewable for up to three more years |
A Bachelor of Commerce student at UBC Okanagan can therefore be assessed for more than one of these, but each award has its own rules and UBC applies them individually – do not add the figures together and treat the total as guaranteed.
Frequently asked questions
Every new international student who enrols in the Bachelor of Commerce degree at UBC’s Okanagan campus for the September 2027 intake. You must be an international (study permit) student, be admitted to that programme, and accept the offer of admission.
No. UBC states that the award is applied automatically as a credit on your student account after you accept your offer of admission. The only application you file is the UBC admission application.
CAD 6,000 a year towards tuition, paid in two instalments of CAD 3,000 in Winter Term 1 and Winter Term 2. It is renewable for an additional three years or until degree completion, so up to about CAD 24,000 across a four-year degree.
15 January 2027 at 11:59 p.m. PST is the deadline to apply for the Winter Session starting in September 2027. If you also want the need-based UBC International Scholars Program awards, both the UBC application and the award application are due by 15 November 2026.
Yes. The award is open to international students of all nationalities, and UBC does not run a separate India quota or a separate India deadline for it.
It is a tuition credit, not a cash payment. UBC applies it against your tuition fees, so you still need to fund living costs, travel and any fees that are not covered.
The award is tied to the Bachelor of Commerce degree at the Okanagan campus. UBC lists the award under that programme, so a change of programme or campus means the award no longer applies – confirm the position with UBC before you switch.
