Yale Young Global Scholars 2027: Apply by 15 October

Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) is Yale University’s two-week summer programme for high school students from around the world, and it is open to students in India. Students live on Yale’s campus in New Haven, take part in an interdisciplinary academic track with peers from more than 150 countries, and can ask for need-based financial aid that covers up to 100% of the tuition.

The application for the 2027 sessions is open now. Early Action closes on 15 October 2026 and Regular Decision closes on 6 January 2027. Students who need financial aid should not wait for the later round, because the same need-based aid is offered in both rounds and the early round is the cheaper application.

What the YYGS financial aid covers

YYGS is a paid summer programme, so the honest way to read it is this: the tuition has a price tag and the financial aid is need-based. Yale states that the full programme tuition for one two-week residential session is US$7,500 and that need-based financial aid is available for all domestic and international students, covering up to the full cost of tuition. In practice, aid packages can cover part or all of the tuition.

Tuition of US$7,500 for a two-week residential session covers the on-campus parts of the programme: housing, meals, curriculum materials and classroom facilities.
Need-based financial aid covers up to 100% of that tuition. Yale confirms that aid is available to students from every country, so Indian applicants are eligible to apply for it.
Travel to the USA and back is not covered by the programme. Yale states that travel is excluded, and that students arrange and pay for their own transportation.
A fee waiver is available for the application fee. Students with demonstrated need can send the fee waiver form for a school official to complete, and if it is approved the application fee drops to US$0.

YYGS eligibility for students from India

The eligibility rules are fixed by Yale and apply to every country. To apply for YYGS 2027 an applicant must:

Be between 16 and 18 years old by 18 July 2027, the first day of Session III.
Be in the international equivalent of the sophomore or junior year of high school. For Indian students that means students who are currently in Class 10 or Class 11.
Be graduating in May or June 2028 or 2029 from the Northern Hemisphere. Southern Hemisphere applicants must be graduating in November or December 2027 or 2028.
Be a first-time YYGS participant. Students who have already attended a YYGS session in 2026 or earlier are not eligible for 2027, while students who applied before and were not selected may apply again.
Be able to study in English in a rigorous academic curriculum.

Sessions and tracks at Yale in 2027

Every student attends one session and picks one interdisciplinary track within it. YYGS has announced three residential sessions for 2027, each with the same three tracks:

Session I: 20 June to 2 July 2027.
Session II: 4 to 16 July 2027.
Session III: 18 to 30 July 2027.
Innovations in Science and Technology (IST) – science, engineering and technology topics.
Politics, Law and Economics (PLE) – governance, law, economics and public policy topics.
Solving Global Challenges (SGC) – global affairs, health, development and society topics.

Sessions run back-to-back on the Yale campus, and students live in Yale accommodation during the programme. There are no online sessions for 2027.

How to apply for YYGS 2027

Read the eligibility rules and the required application components on the YYGS website before you start, and download the sample application form to prepare your answers.
Collect the contact details of a parent or guardian, a teacher and a school official, because the application asks for their information and one of them may need to confirm your details.
Create an account on the YYGS application portal and complete the application. The financial aid section, including the fee waiver request, is inside the same application.
Submit the application and pay the application fee in your applicant status portal: US$85 for Early Action or US$100 for Regular Decision. If your fee waiver is approved, no fee is payable.
Watch for the decision. Early Action applicants are told their admission and financial aid status by 11 December 2026 and Regular Decision applicants by 10 March 2027.
