What is the High Fliers Scholarship?
The Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship is one of the University of Birmingham’s international recruitment awards for its January 2027 intake. It gives students from a selection of countries a straight £5,000 reduction on their tuition fees when they enrol on one of a short list of taught master’s programmes at the Birmingham (Edgbaston) campus.
The award is aimed at high-calibre international students who want to begin a master’s in January rather than the main September intake. Because it is an automatic, merit-by-eligibility award, you do not write a scholarship essay or sit a separate interview – the only act required of you is to complete your admission and accept an unconditional offer before the deadline.
Scholarship value: what £5,000 covers
- The award is a £5,000 tuition fee discount for the eligible master’s course you enrol on in January 2027.
- It is a fee waiver, not a cash payment. No part of the £5,000 is paid to you.

- If you have already paid your full tuition fee in advance, you can request a refund of the scholarship amount once you have enrolled.
- It can be held alongside other University of Birmingham departmental scholarships, provided the terms of both allow it, but it cannot be held with any full-fee scholarship.
