Monthly stipend rates
The rate depends on the programme the student is enrolled in. The stipend is paid for twelve months in each academic year:

Contingency grant
Along with the stipend, a student who is entitled to the full stipend also receives an annual contingency grant for books, stationery and other study needs:

Conditions for continuing the stipend
- A student gets the full stipend if the average composite score in the semester is at least 60% and not more than one course score is below 45% (two courses in the first semester of the first year).
- A student gets half the stipend if the average composite score is between 45% and 60% with the same course conditions.
- No stipend is paid if the composite score in any course is below 35% (45% in the core courses for M.Tech QROR and MS QMS), or if the average composite score in all credit courses is below 45%.
- If the overall attendance in all courses in a semester is below 75%, no stipend is paid in the following semester.
- The Dean of Studies can withdraw the stipend for a period if the student’s conduct on the campus is found to be unsatisfactory. The stipend can be restored in a later semester, but not with retrospective effect.
- A student who repeats a year does not get any stipend, contingency grant or prize during the repeat year.
- If a student is already receiving a scholarship from another government agency, the institute’s stipend is discontinued. If another scholarship is received with retrospective effect later, the stipend already paid has to be returned.
Eligibility criteria
- The student must have taken admission in an under graduate or post graduate degree or diploma programme of the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, such as B.Stat, B.Math, M.Stat, M.Math, MS, M.Tech or the PG Diploma in Statistical Methods and Analytics.
- The student must be an Indian national and must not be holding another government scholarship for the same course of study.
- The stipend is awarded at the time of admission and continues only if the student maintains the academic performance, attendance and conduct requirements of the institute.
How to apply
- Register and apply online on the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in) before the last date of the admission year.
- Keep the institute enrolment details, bank account linked with Aadhaar and the required certificates ready while filling the form.
- The institute verifies the application on NSP, and the nodal officer of the State processes it for payment.
- The stipend is credited directly into the student’s bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer.
