The Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad (IIIT-A), Prayagraj, an Institute of National Importance set up by an Act of Parliament, runs a rolling advertisement for admission to its NEP-based PhD programmes. The advertisement was updated on 7 October 2026 and the next cut-off date in the current cycle is 30 November 2026 (Monday).
Because the call is rolling, there are three cut-off dates in the cycle – 31 March 2026, 30 June 2026 (with interviews on 14-15 July 2026) and 30 November 2026. The first two have already passed, so 30 November 2026 is the date to target if you want to start your PhD at IIIT Allahabad in the next intake.
There are two application streams: PhD (with Institute/External Fellowship) and PhD (Working Professional). The advertisement’s tentative schedule also carries a PhD (Non NET/GATE) column for candidates who do not hold a national-level exam score and therefore have to clear the institute’s own entrance test (IIITA-PET).

Eligibility criteria for IIIT Allahabad PhD admission
- A candidate with a B.Tech/B.Pharm/M.Tech/M.Pharm/M.Sc/MCA/MBA/M.Com or an equivalent professional degree and a qualified score in GATE, GPAT, CAT, NET (PhD only), NET (Lectureship/Assistant Professor), NET-JRF, CSIR NET or ICMR-JRF, as applicable, is eligible for the regular PhD programme of the respective domain.
- GRE/GMAT is also considered if the preceding degree was completed outside India.

- You must have secured at least 60% (PG) cumulatively or 6 CGPI on a scale of 10 at the time of application itself. For candidates from socially and economically underprivileged classes, relaxation applies as per Government of India norms.
- For direct admission after a 4-year undergraduate degree, the bar is at least 70% cumulatively or 7 CGPI on a scale of 10, with the same Government of India relaxation for underprivileged classes.
- Candidates admitted provisionally with an INSPIRE Fellowship must produce the fellowship award letter before the end of the third semester, or qualify the national-level exam listed in the advertisement within that period – failing both can lead to termination of the PhD candidature.
- A candidate without any financial support from the Institute or any other funding agency is not allowed to pursue a PhD at IIITA. This condition does not apply to working professionals.
Selection process: screening test followed by interview
- Stage I is a screening test held at the IIITA campus only and it is computer based (not pen and paper). Maximum marks are 100 and the duration is two hours, split into two sections of 50 marks each – Section I is common for all departments and Section II is department specific.
- Stage I acts only as a screening exam. Each department declares its own list of screened-in candidates for the personal interview.
- Stage I is exempted for candidates who have qualified a national-level exam such as GATE or NET.
- Stage II is a personal interview conducted by a department-specific panel of experts, held on the same day or the next day as the Stage I test.
- Working professionals are exempted from Stage I – eligible candidates are called directly to the Stage II personal interview.
- Final selection is subject to the recommendation of the evaluation committee and approval of the competent authority; the Institute may leave seats unfilled if suitable candidates are not found.
