What is the IIPE PhD programme?

IIPE is a domain-specific institute at par with the IITs and IIMs. It was set up by the Government of India in 2016, and the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy Act, 2017 declared it an Institution of National Importance. Its research focus is the energy sector – conventional and renewable energy, storage, shale gas, coal bed methane, gas hydrates and downstream oil and gas activities – supported by its proximity to the KG Basin, the Visakhapatnam refinery and the planned petrochemical complex at Kakinada.

The PhD degree is awarded after coursework, a comprehensive examination and seminar, publication of original research in reputed journals or conferences, and a thesis with a final viva voce. Research areas available in each field are listed on the IIPE website.
