The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has opened fresh applications for the PM YASASVI Central Sector Scheme of Top Class Education in Schools for the 2026-27 academic year on the National Scholarship Portal. The announcement sits on the NSP homepage and covers students from the Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Backward Classes (EBC) and Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNT).
Unlike the CSSS renewal window, which is for students already on the scheme, this is a fresh window: a first-time applicant can register and apply now. Two things are worth knowing before you start. Students from Rajasthan, Kerala and Karnataka are not yet allowed to submit, and NSP has not published a closing date for this fresh window, so the safe reading is to apply as soon as your documents are ready rather than waiting for a last-date reminder.

Who is eligible for PM YASASVI 2026-27
The scheme pays for school education in schools that the Ministry has identified as Top Class Schools. To be eligible you must meet all of the following, as listed on the scheme page published by the Ministry on myScheme:
- You belong to the OBC, EBC or DNT category.
- You are studying in a Top Class School identified under the scheme – these are schools that consistently record 100% passes in Classes 10 and 12, and they can be government, aided or private.
- Your household annual income is less than Rs 2.5 lakh.
- You are studying from Class 9 onwards and will continue till you complete Class 12.
- You have a bank account in your own name, and the details are given in the application.
- You are not already receiving assistance under another government scheme for the same items covered here.
The scheme also requires the shortlisted school to run an Aadhaar-based attendance system that can be integrated with a central portal. Slots are allotted state-wise on the basis of OBC population data, the number of slots for each state and class is announced in April every year, and at least 30% of the scholarships are reserved for girls.
How much PM YASASVI pays
The scholarship covers tuition fee, hostel fee and other charges as required by the school, within these ceilings:
- Rs 75,000 per year for a student of Class 9 or Class 10.
- Rs 1,25,000 per year for a student of Class 11 or Class 12.
Money is released directly into the student’s bank account through DBT, in installments, before 15 August each year. The scheme is funded 100% by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Which students cannot apply right now
The NSP announcement is explicit that students from Rajasthan, Kerala and Karnataka should wait – those three states have not been enabled for this fresh window yet. If you are from one of them, keep your OTR, income certificate and previous marksheet ready and check the NSP homepage for the update; do not create a second OTR in the meantime.
Separately, students who are already on a scholarship under this scheme for the same items, and students whose school is not a notified Top Class School, are not covered by this window.
Documents and OTR you need before you apply
- Aadhaar and an OTR (One Time Registration) number – a 14-digit number issued against your Aadhaar or Aadhaar Enrolment ID, mandatory for any NSP scholarship.
- Marks obtained in the final examination of the previous class, which the application asks for.
- Family income proof for the Rs 2.5 lakh limit, and your category (OBC/EBC/DNT) certificate.
- Your own bank account details, seeded with Aadhaar, for DBT payment.
- If you are a student with a benchmark disability, first log in to the UDID portal and give consent to share your UDID details, otherwise NSP will not accept the application.
How to apply for PM YASASVI on NSP
- Open scholarships.gov.in and complete OTR registration under the applicant corner if you do not have an OTR yet.
- Log in with your OTR or Aadhaar, select your domicile state and the post-matric option, and generate your application ID.
- Choose the PM YASASVI Central Sector Scheme of Top Class Education in Schools for OBC, EBC and DNT students.
- Fill in personal, category and academic details, add the marks of your previous class, and upload the required documents.
- Submit the application and note the application ID. Your school and then the state nodal officer verify it on the portal – follow up with your school if the status stays pending.
- Application on NSP is free. If you use a Common Service Centre, the total charge for the whole process, including OTR generation and form filling, is fixed at Rs 30.
Important dates for the 2026-27 cycle
The NSP portal has been open for the 2026-27 academic year since 1 June 2026. The only closing dates NSP has published this week belong to the renewal schemes, not to YASASVI: student applications for the CSSS and the PM-USP Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh renewals close on 31 October 2026, institute verification closes on 15 November 2026 and Level 2 verification closes on 30 November 2026. For YASASVI fresh applications, no closing date has been posted – treat the window as open but unannounced on the deadline.
One more rule that applies across NSP from this academic year: a student may apply for one merit-based scholarship scheme and one or more welfare-based schemes, as per each scheme’s eligibility conditions. YASASVI is a merit-based component, so check that combination before you submit two applications.
