What the undergraduate award is worth

Each undergraduate Global Futures award is worth GBP 36,000 in total: GBP 12,000 in the first year, then GBP 12,000 in the second year and GBP 12,000 in the third year. The money is applied as a discount on the published international tuition fee, so it reduces what you pay rather than arriving as cash in your bank account.

The award is not guaranteed for all three years. Continuation is conditional on scoring 60% in your exams and assessments in each year of study, so the second and third GBP 12,000 depend on how you perform at Manchester.

For 2027 the university says the round carries more than 350 awards across undergraduate and master’s study, together worth more than GBP 6 million. The undergraduate scholarships for South Asia are shared between students domiciled in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, so the India share is not published as a fixed number.

Who can apply from India

The undergraduate Global Futures award is open to Indian students who meet every one of these conditions:

  • You are an international fee-paying student domiciled in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan or Sri Lanka.
  • ‘Domiciled’ means you have predominantly lived in that country for the last three years – living there only for full-time education does not count.
  • You are applying for direct first-year entry in 2027, not a transfer or a later-year entry.
  • You are self-funded. Sponsored students are not eligible.
  • You hold an offer for a full-time course taught at the university’s UK campus.
  • You select The University of Manchester as your Firm UCAS choice by 15 May 2027.

Which qualifications count

You must have, or be working towards, one of these qualifications:

  • Indian Standard XII from the CBSE, CISCE, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka or Gujarat board.
  • A-levels.
  • IB Diploma.

Selection looks at your previous exam results, your predicted grades in the qualification above, and the strength of your personal statement and scholarship form. There is no separate entrance test for the scholarship.

Courses that are not eligible

  • Medicine (MBChB).
  • Dentistry (BDS).
  • Architecture.
  • Any course with an integrated foundation year.
  • Blended and distance-learning programmes.
  • Applicants who have previously studied in the UK.

The award only applies to full-time courses delivered at the Manchester campus in the UK, so programmes taught entirely overseas fall outside it.

How to apply, step by step

There is no open public form. The scholarship application is emailed only to offer-holders, so the UCAS application has to come first:

  1. Apply through UCAS for a 2027 first-year entry course at Manchester.
  2. Once you hold an offer, watch your email – the scholarship form is sent automatically to eligible offer-holders, and the university says forms go out from December 2026 until the closing date.
  3. Submit the online scholarship application form by 30 March 2027.
  4. Accept Manchester as your Firm choice by 15 May 2027.
  5. Award offers are made by 1 May 2027 and stay conditional on academic performance where your final results are not out yet.

Important dates for the 2027 round

  • December 2026 – scholarship forms start reaching eligible offer-holders by email.
  • 30 March 2027 – last date to submit the online scholarship application form.
  • 1 May 2027 – award offers announced, conditional where results are still pending.
  • 15 May 2027 – Manchester must be your Firm UCAS choice to keep the award.
  • September 2027 – start of study; the first GBP 12,000 is applied to your first-year tuition fee.

How winners are chosen

The university says awardees are selected primarily on academic merit – your achieved and predicted grades plus your scholarship form and personal statement. It may also consider the overall composition of the scholarship cohort, including representation across academic programmes, domicile, gender and qualification background, so strong grades alone do not guarantee an award.

Because the South Asia pool is shared across four countries and no per-country quota is published, treat the GBP 36,000 as a competitive merit award rather than an entitlement.

Master’s students: the separate GBP 12,000 award

The master’s version of Global Futures is a different award: GBP 12,000 as a discount on overseas tuition for Indian students starting a taught master’s in September 2027. That round is split into two halves, with 50% of awards offered by 15 March 2027 and the rest by 1 June 2027, and the application deadline is 25 April 2027. If you are applying for a master’s rather than a bachelor’s degree, use the master’s post linked below instead of this one.
