The University of Twente Scholarship (UTS) 2027 is a merit award for international students who want to do a Master’s degree at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. It is worth EUR 3,000 to EUR 22,000 for one year and is open to students from non-EU/EEA countries, which includes India.
The window is fixed and short: the UTS application form opens on 15 October 2026 at 09:00 CET and closes on 1 April 2027 at 16:00 CET for programmes starting in September 2027. Results are announced in the first week of May 2027, and the university states you can be awarded only one UT scholarship.

What the University of Twente Scholarship is worth
The UTS is a cash scholarship, not a fee waiver. The University of Twente describes it as a compensation for study-related costs and states that the money is paid to the student, who decides how to spend it – no tuition fee or other cost is paid on your behalf. The value range for 2027 is EUR 3,000 to EUR 22,000 for one year, and the exact amount in your case depends on the programme and on how strong your file is.
If you are applying for a two-year Master’s programme, the second year is not automatic. A UTS holder can receive an additional amount equal to the first year if they meet the process requirements: an average grade of 7 out of 10 at the end of the third quartile of the first year, and at least 50% of European Credits completed by then. Plan your budget on the assumption that the second year may or may not be funded.
Who is eligible for the UTS
- You come from a non-EU/EEA country – India is on the eligible country list published with the scholarship page – and you are not eligible for the statutory Dutch tuition fee.
- You have been (provisionally) admitted to one of the qualifying UT Master’s programmes starting in the academic year 2027/2028 (September). UT warns that after you submit your application it may take up to 8 weeks to get the result.
- You must have a student number – that is what you use to apply for the scholarship.
- You have not graduated from a UT undergraduate or graduate programme.
- You meet the general English language requirement: Academic IELTS 6.5 (or TOEFL iBT 90) with an additional 6.0 (TOEFL iBT 20) on the speaking subscore.
- You are not eligible for a Dutch study loan.
- UT describes UTS holders as excellent students – you should be in the top 5 to 10 percent of your graduation class at your home university. The university asks you to be honest with yourself about this before applying.
The exclusions are equally clear: the UTS is not available to Dutch students or current UT students, not to EU/EEA students, not for Master’s programmes at the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), not for the pre-Master programme, and not for students who pay the statutory tuition fee – including non-EU students who hold a Dutch residence permit that makes them eligible for it.

How to apply for the University of Twente Scholarship
Applying for the UTS is a procedure separate from applying for the course itself. You cannot win the scholarship without first being admitted to a UT Master’s programme, so the course application is step one.
- Pick your Master’s programme in the UT programme catalogue and note the September 2027 intake.
- Submit your admission application to the University of Twente and wait for the (conditional) admission letter. Budget up to 8 weeks for this.
- Keep the student number you receive – the scholarship application is made with it.
- Apply for the UTS through the university’s scholarship application, which opens on 15 October 2026 at 09:00 CET.
- Submit the scholarship application before 1 April 2027, 16:00 CET and wait for the outcome, announced in the first week of May 2027.

UTS vs other University of Twente scholarships
Two related awards come up when you look at the UTS. The first is the Kipaji Scholarship, an additional scholarship that can be awarded to UTS recipients, and only for programmes starting in September 2027. You must apply for the UTS to be eligible, and the Kipaji programme has its own additional requirements – indicate your interest in your UTS motivation if you think you qualify.
