The University of Queensland’s International Excellence Scholarship takes 25% off tuition for high-achieving international students who start a coursework program in 2027, and it keeps taking 25% off for the whole duration of that program. There is no scholarship form to fill in: UQ assesses every applicant for a 2027 program automatically and tells you the outcome with your offer.

The award covers undergraduate and postgraduate coursework degrees in all study areas, and the reduction is applied to your tuition before the due date each semester. What it does not do is pay living costs, and holding another UQ scholarship or a full external sponsorship rules you out.

What the scholarship is worth
- Value: a 25% reduction in tuition fees per semester, which the 2027 terms and conditions describe as 25% per annum for the duration of the enrolled coursework program.
- Duration: for the duration of the program, not a single year.
- Levels: undergraduate and postgraduate coursework.
- Study areas: all study areas.
- Number awarded: UQ says the number may vary, and the award is competitive within the pool of offer holders for each commencement semester.
- How it is paid: the 25% reduction is applied to your tuition before the fees due date each semester, so it reduces the bill rather than arriving as a cash payment.
- What it does not cover: living costs, flights, insurance and the student services and amenities fee are outside the scholarship.
Who is eligible
- You must be an international student.
- You must have applied to study full-time at UQ, commencing in 2027, in an eligible program.
- You must have satisfied all the conditions of your program offer.
- You must have met the program’s entry rank and its English language proficiency requirement.
- You must have achieved a competitive score, as determined by UQ, among the pool of offer holders for programs in your commencement semester.
- You must not have received another scholarship, tuition fee reduction or rebate from UQ, with the single exception of the UQ English Language Scholarship.
- You must not hold a full scholarship or sponsorship from another organisation. Partial scholarships or sponsorships may be considered at the University’s discretion.
How UQ assesses you – no separate application
UQ states that you do not need to apply for this scholarship. When you apply to study a program at UQ you are automatically assessed, so the quality of your program application is the scholarship application.
- If you are eligible, UQ notifies you that the scholarship is offered together with your unconditional letter of offer, or once you have satisfied the conditions of a conditional offer.
- You must accept your UQ program offer and pay the tuition deposit for the scholarship to be finalised.
- You must maintain satisfactory academic progress for the duration of the program.
- The discount is then applied to each semester’s tuition before the due date.
What can make you lose the award
- Deferral: the 2027 terms and conditions state that a recipient who defers commencement to a future semester may no longer be eligible.
- Changing program: a program change is assessed against the criteria at the time of the change and against the list of excluded programs, so check before you switch.
- Another award: accepting a second UQ scholarship, fee reduction or rebate, or a full external sponsorship, takes you outside the eligibility rules.
- Academic progress: the scholarship can be terminated if you do not maintain satisfactory academic progress, and the terms and conditions list the other termination grounds.
How to apply, step by step
- Choose an eligible UQ coursework program that starts in 2027 and check its entry rank and English language requirement on the program page.
- Apply to UQ as an international student through the University’s international application process. There is no separate scholarship form and no scholarship fee.
- Submit your academic transcripts and your English proficiency test result with the application – the scholarship requires you to have met the program’s English requirement, so a pending test can hold up both the offer and the assessment.
- Wait for the outcome. If you are in the competitive pool, UQ includes the scholarship in your offer letter, or confirms it once your conditions are met.
- Accept the offer, pay the tuition deposit, and check the 25% reduction appears on your first semester invoice before the fees due date.
Important dates for the 2027 intake
- Commencement: the 2027 terms and conditions apply to students starting a coursework program in 2027.
- Scholarship deadline: none, because assessment is automatic. The binding date is your program application closing date.
- Assessment point: with the offer. UQ says the offer of the scholarship arrives with the unconditional offer letter, or once the conditions of a conditional offer are satisfied.
- Terms and conditions: UQ has published the UQ International Excellence Scholarship Terms and Conditions for 2027, which govern the award for this intake.
