The Newcastle University India Future Leaders Scholarship is a £10,000 award for Indian students taking a full-time master’s degree at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom, starting in September 2027.
Unlike most UK scholarships, there is no separate application form. Newcastle identifies eligible Indian offer-holders automatically and credits the award to your tuition fee account. The one action you control is the deadline: you must accept your degree offer and pay your tuition fee deposit in full by 2 August 2027.
This page carries the exact value, the eligibility rules from the university’s own regulations, the courses that are excluded, how the automatic award works, and the other 2027 scholarships Indian students can pair with their Newcastle application.

What is the Newcastle University India Future Leaders Scholarship?
Newcastle University runs a family of country-specific ‘Future Leaders’ awards, and the India edition is one of the university’s largest international scholarships. It is a partial award worth £10,000 that is applied against your tuition fees – it is not a cash payment and it does not cover living costs.
The award was created to help international students from India study for a postgraduate master’s degree at Newcastle. The university states that eligible candidates are automatically awarded the scholarship as part of their programme application, which means the scholarship is decided alongside your course offer rather than through a separate competitive round.
Newcastle adds that awards will be offered throughout the academic year before the start of the student’s degree. In practice that means the earlier you apply for your master’s course, the earlier the award is confirmed.
Scholarship value and what it covers
- The value of the award is £10,000 and it is credited to your student tuition fee account.
- It reduces the overall cost of your tuition fees – it is not paid to you as cash and it does not cover accommodation or living expenses.
- The scholarship is renewable annually and is subject to academic progression, so it continues for the duration of your course if you progress normally.
- It applies for the duration of your course, for programmes beginning in September 2027.
- The award cannot be deferred to a later academic year – you must register as a student in the 2027/28 academic year.
Eligibility: who can apply
According to the university’s official NUIFLS postgraduate regulations for 2027/28, to be considered for the award you must:
- Be domiciled in India. Newcastle defines this as having predominantly resided in India during the last three years; the country that counts is your permanent country of residence, not a country where you are only living for the purpose of full-time education.
- Have been offered a place on an eligible Master’s degree course at the university’s Newcastle city centre campus for the 2027/28 academic year.
- Be taking a programme that begins in September 2027 – courses starting in January 2028 are not eligible for this award.
- Be assessed as an international student for tuition fee purposes.
- Have accepted your programme offer and paid your tuition fee deposit in full by 2 August 2027.
- Become a registered student at Newcastle University in 2027/28 on a full-time master’s degree programme.
Who is not eligible for the India Future Leaders Scholarship
The regulations list these exclusions, and they matter because a wrong course choice means no award:
- MPhil, doctoral programmes (PhD, Integrated PhD, EngD, DClinPsych) and Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma applicants.
- Students on online (e-learning) degree programmes and distance learning courses (for example the LLM Mediation and International Commercial Dispute Resolution).
- Courses based at Newcastle’s Malaysia and Singapore campuses.
- Current registered students who have already started their postgraduate degree at the time of the award – awards cannot be made retrospectively.
- Students who are repeating courses.
- Applicants for the two-year Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) and MSc Advanced Architectural Design courses.
- Fully sponsored students: a fully funded scholarship or full sponsorship that covers your tuition fees before any scholarship deduction makes you ineligible, and the university can recover amounts already paid out.
Can you combine it with another Newcastle scholarship?
No – the India Future Leaders Scholarship cannot be held together with most other Newcastle awards. The regulations say a successful applicant cannot receive this award and a Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship, Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship, Newcastle University GREAT Scholarship, a Newcastle University Business School international scholarship, Elite Sports Scholarship, Medical Sciences International Masters Excellence Scholarship, Spärck AI Scholarship, the International Family Discount, the Alumni Progression Scholarship or Discount, or a faculty or school scholarship.
You may still apply for or be considered for more than one award. If you win this scholarship and one of the listed schemes, you receive the higher-value award and the lower-value one is reallocated to another applicant.
How to apply for the Newcastle India Future Leaders Scholarship
- Apply for an eligible full-time master’s course that starts in September 2027 at Newcastle’s city centre campus, using the normal postgraduate application route.

- Take your leadership and innovation record seriously in the application – the university’s country awards look at academic ability and commitment to studies.
