University of Guelph International Scholarships 2027: Up to C$20,000

The University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada runs one of the clearest scholarship families for international students anywhere: entrance awards that are only for international fee-paying students and are assessed from your admission application, so there is no separate scholarship form to chase. The largest of them, the University International Scholarship, is worth up to C$20,000 paid over four years.

India is one of Guelph’s biggest international student markets, and these awards are open to Indian applicants entering the first semester of any undergraduate degree program who have not attended a post-secondary institution before. Guelph also offers a C$42,500 flagship award for a single entering international student each year, which needs its own application.

This page carries the values, the full eligibility rules, the renewal conditions and the admission dates, all taken from the University of Guelph’s official award records and its admission dates and deadlines page.

Which scholarships does Guelph offer international students?

Guelph’s international entrance awards are set out in its award search and summarised on the scholarships and bursaries page. For an Indian student entering the first year of an undergraduate degree, three awards are automatic – you are considered for them when you apply for admission:

  • University International Scholarship – several awards of up to C$20,000 payable over four years (C$5,000 per year). This is the biggest of the automatic awards.
  • Dean’s International Scholarship – several awards of up to C$10,000 payable over four years (C$2,500 per year).
  • President’s International Entrance Scholarship – various awards ranging from C$2,000 to C$7,500.

Two more awards are worth knowing about. The Franco J. Vaccarino President’s Scholarship is one award of C$42,500 – C$8,250 a year for four years plus a one-time C$9,500 stipend for a summer research assistantship – and Guelph describes it as its most prestigious award for an entering international student. It is selected on leadership, extra-curricular involvement and references, and it needs a separate online application. The International Transfer Scholarship is a one-time C$10,000 award for international fee-paying students who transfer into a Guelph undergraduate degree from another institution.

Eligibility: who qualifies for the Guelph awards

The three automatic awards share the same eligibility rule, as published in Guelph’s official award records:

  • You must pay international student tuition fees and apply as an international student applicant. Canadian citizens, permanent residents and protected persons are not eligible for these particular awards.
  • You must be entering semester one of a degree program.
  • You must not have attended a post-secondary institution before – these are first-year entrance awards.
  • You must have a record of high academic achievement. Awards are competitive and are decided on the admission average at the time of the offer of admission, or in May and/or August.

Because India is a major recruitment market for Guelph, Indian applicants are a normal part of this pool. There is no country quota published for these awards – selection is on the admission average, so a strong Class 12 result (or equivalent) is what matters.

How to apply for the Guelph international scholarships

  1. Apply for admission to the University of Guelph as an international applicant for the fall 2027 intake, through Guelph’s international undergraduate admission process. There is no separate scholarship form for the University International Scholarship, the Dean’s International Scholarship or the President’s International Entrance Scholarship – the award record lists the application as ‘Application for Admission’.
  2. Hold an offer of admission. Entrance awards are assessed on the admission average at the time of the offer, or in May and/or August.
  3. Register full-time in both the fall and winter semesters of your first year to receive the full first-year value.
  4. For the Franco J. Vaccarino President’s Scholarship, complete the separate online application and arrange references. Allow extra time – the deadline for this award is earlier than the admission deadline.
  5. Pay the C$2,000 international tuition deposit once you accept your offer.

Renewal: keeping the award in years 2, 3 and 4

The two four-year awards continue only if you meet the renewal conditions each year. Guelph’s award records state that you must:

  • remain registered in full-time studies,
  • achieve a minimum 80.0% average in your previous academic year of full-time study, and
  • continue to pay the international tuition fees.

If you miss a renewal payment you can re-qualify by reaching an 80.0% or better average in a later year, but payments lost cannot be added to the end of the award period. Entrance scholarships cannot be deferred – if you defer your offer of admission, you are reconsidered the following year based on the availability of scholarships for that cohort.

Important dates for fall 2027 entry

From Guelph’s official admission dates and deadlines page for international applicants:

  • 15 May 2027 – deadline for high school students studying outside Canada to apply for fall 2027 entry.
  • 22 May 2027 – deadline for high school students studying outside Canada to submit their documents.
  • 1 June 2027 – deadline for international students studying outside Canada to accept their offer of admission.
  • 15 June 2027 – deadline for international fee-paying students to submit the C$2,000 tuition deposit.
  • 1 April 2027 – application deadline for transfer students applying for fall 2027 entry.
  • 8 March 2027 – the date Guelph’s fall 2027 deadlines page gives for the Franco J. Vaccarino President’s Scholarship application. The award record itself lists 23 January, so confirm the exact date on the official award page before you apply.

Guelph’s award records also note that entrance awards cannot be held with certain other awards and that a student who switches to domestic tuition after an offer has the scholarship value adjusted to the domestic value. Check the individual award record before you rely on a combination.
